What it does
Reporting periods represent your credit-earning cycles — a state license renewal, a board maintenance-of-certification cycle, or an institutional requirement. Each period has a date range, the regulator it answers to, and a credit target, and the platform tracks earned credits against that target as you log activities.
Who it's for
Anyone in the personal portal who must earn a set number of continuing-education credits by a deadline.
How it works
Creating a period. From the Reporting Periods page you add a period with a name (for example "Medical License (IL)"), a period type (license renewal, board MOC, or institutional), a regulatory body, start and end dates, and the credits required. The end date must fall after the start date, and the credit requirement must be above zero.
Automatic progress. When you log a CME activity and link a credit entry to a period, the period's earned-credit total updates on its own. Each period card shows earned versus required credits, a progress percentage, and days remaining until the end date.
Status summary. The page's tiles count four things: your active periods, periods expiring within 90 days, periods that hit 100% of their credit target, and periods at or past the halfway mark ("on track").
Marking a period submitted. When you have reported your credits to the regulator, mark the period as submitted from its card. The period moves from active to submitted status and stops appearing among your active cycles.
Before you start
You need a name, period type, regulatory body, start and end dates, and a credit target ready — all are required to add a period.
The end date must be after the start date, and the credit target must be above zero.
You don't need a reporting period to log CME activities — but a credit only counts toward a cycle when its entry is linked to one.
Do this
Open the Reporting Periods page (
/my-cme/periods) → you should see your period cards and stat tiles.Select the Add Period button → the Add Reporting Period dialog opens.
Fill in each field: enter a Name, choose a Period Type, and enter the Regulatory Body → all three are required.
Fill in each remaining field — Start Date, End Date, and Credits Required → the end date must fall after the start date, and credits required must be above zero.
Select the Add Period button in the dialog → you should return to the page with the new period listed among your cards.
You're done when
✓ The new period shows as a card with its progress bar at 0%.
✓ Logging an activity's credit entry to this period updates its earned total automatically.
✓ The period counts toward the Active Periods stat tile.
Boundaries and limits
Progress comes only from credit entries linked to the period. Credits logged without a reporting period, and activities logged in another system, don't count toward it.
Marking a period submitted records your attestation inside the platform. Nothing is sent to the regulator — you still file with your licensing board or certifying body through their own process.
The "expiring soon" flag uses a fixed 90-day window, and "on track" uses a fixed 50% threshold. Neither is configurable.
Periods are personal records: you create and manage your own. Administrators with management permission over your program can view and manage them too, but other learners can't see yours.
A period is flagged complete once its linked credits reach the required total, and shows as submitted once you mark it so. Only active periods count in the summary tiles.
Deleting a period does not delete the activities or credits that were linked to it.
Common questions
Q: What period types are available? A: License renewal, board maintenance of certification (MOC), and institutional. The type just labels your cycles — progress tracking works the same for all three.
Q: Can one activity count toward two periods? A: Each credit entry links to at most one period. But an activity can carry several credit entries, so you can log two entries on the same activity and point each at a different period.
Q: What happens when I mark a period submitted? A: Its status changes from active to submitted, and it drops out of your active-cycle stats. It stays visible in your period list as a record.
Q: My period shows fewer credits than I have logged. Why? A: Check that each activity's credit entries are linked to the period. Credits logged without a period selection sit on the activity, but don't count in any cycle.
