What it does
Every rotation can carry a roster of the faculty responsible for it: a primary supervisor, plus co-supervisors and attendings. This roster decides who sees the rotation in their own supervision view. It also gives coordinators one place to answer "who covers this rotation?"
Who it's for
Program administrators and coordinators who assign faculty to rotations, and the faculty supervisors themselves, who see their assignments reflected in their personal portal.
How it works
Open a rotation and go to its Supervisors tab. To add a supervisor, pick a person and choose their role: Supervisor, Co-Supervisor, or Attending. You can mark them primary at the same time. Add people one at a time.
One person on the roster can be marked primary. Setting a new primary clears the previous one automatically, so there's never an unclear double-primary state.
Supervisors are removed, not edited in place. Use Remove from a supervisor's row menu. This deactivates their entry, so past supervision history stays intact.
Before you start
You need program administration access to assign or remove supervisors.
Know the person's role on this rotation — Supervisor, Co-Supervisor, or Attending.
Check the roster first. The same person can't be added twice to one rotation.
Do this
Open a rotation from the rotation catalog and go to the Supervisors tab → you should see the current roster and each person's role.
Select Assign Supervisor → a panel opens with Faculty Member and Role fields and a Primary toggle.
In the same panel, search for the person under Faculty Member field, pick their Role, and turn on Primary if they should be the rotation's main contact → confirm the person's name is selected.
In the panel, select Assign → the person appears on the roster with their role badge, and the primary indicator if you set one.
To remove someone, open their row's ⋯ menu and select Remove → the Remove Supervisor dialog opens; select Remove again → they drop off the roster.
You're done when
The roster lists everyone who covers the rotation, each with the right role badge.
Exactly one person shows the primary indicator, if the rotation has a primary supervisor.
A person you removed no longer appears on the roster, but their past supervision history is not lost.
Boundaries and limits
The same person can't be added twice to the same rotation. A duplicate is rejected with a clear message.
A rotation has at most one primary supervisor at a time. The switch is atomic.
Removing a supervisor is a soft deactivation, not a purge. History is preserved.
Supervisor roles are limited to Supervisor, Co-Supervisor, and Attending.
People are added to a rotation's roster one at a time, not in bulk.
A supervisor assignment controls visibility and rosters only. It does not grant schedule-editing rights; those come from delegated coordination access.
Common questions
Q: What does being the primary supervisor change? A: The primary is the headline name shown for the rotation — the default person to contact about it. Co-supervisors and attendings appear on the roster too.
Q: What do supervisors see on their side? A: Rotations they actively supervise appear in their personal rotations view, with the learner roster for each — see the personal schedule views article.
Q: We removed someone by mistake — is their history gone? A: No. Removal deactivates the entry; re-adding the person restores them going forward.
